The final tally on December’s Tree of Hope has hit an unexpected $77,000. That makes the 2019 campaign the best ever in a hundred years. Last year we raised under $70,000. The money goal for the Tree of Hope this year was $40,000 and the extra slow pace of giving in November and early December created fears that the campaign would not be able to reach much more than that. By the time the campaign ended we had raised $65,000. Donations kept pouring in, including some last week, bring the goal to over $77,000. Thanks to our donors, staff and volunteers who made this year’s campaign a success!
The money raised by the Tree of Hope will go into year-round programs aimed at helping the same kids and families. Starting next month, our workers will begin to identify ongoing and urgent needs including food, clothing and baby gear plus recreation and sports for kids. In July, we will be spending the bulk of the money on summer camp. The successful 2018 Tree of Hope campaign sent a record number of kids in summer 2019. We’re expecting another banner year for summer camp in 2020.
