Sonia Gentile appointed Interim Executive Director of Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac Lennox and Addington

Interm Executive Director

A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS – DAN CORBETT

On behalf of the Board of Directors for Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac Lennox and Addington I am pleased to announce the appointment of Sonia Gentile as Interim Executive Director, effective September 4, 2019. She will be replacing Steve Woodman, who resigned to become the ED at Durham CAS. This will be an eight-month appointment and the Board will be making a decision about a permanent replacement for Executive Director at a later date. Sonia’s interim appointment will leave the Agency in good hands and ensure the new Vision and Strategic Plan continue to roll out. We have every confidence in Sonia and her abilities to lead our Family and Children’s Services.

Sonia’s career in Ontario’s child welfare system and her experience at FACSFLA from a front-line social worker to her present role as Director of Service speaks for itself. Sonia also possesses two social work degrees (BSW, MSW) and a Master’s degree in Business Administration. She has extensive experience working on provincial issues relating to child welfare, in building community partnerships and in working collaboratively to create an equitable, safe and healthy workplace.

Her commitment to our new Vision – “Children and Youth Growing Up in Their Families, Cultures and Communities” – is impressive. In her present role as Director of Service, she has displayed a personal commitment to advancing truth and reconciliation with Indigenous services and advancing “anti-racism and anti-oppression” as strategic directions for FACSFLA. Sonia recognizes that organizational achievements come from a collaborative and inclusive workplace where professionals take collective ownership of strategies and actions to improve child welfare outcomes.

The Board feels the Agency is in a good space in this the 125th year of service to the community. The direction and achievements of the Agency are aligned with provincial strategies for “Re-imaging child welfare.” As we move through this change in organizational leadership, the Board of Directors recognize the great work that staff, foster parents, volunteers and partners do each and every day to improve the lives of youth and children in care, to build family engagement and make a difference in the quality of lives.

Please join us in congratulating Sonia and wishing her well in her new role.
