Family and Children’s Services Launches New Online Charity Auction

FUTURES-FUND-AUCTION
Exclusive experiences, great deals all to help send kids in foster care to college

A Kingston rock band will make you a custom birthday song. The Principal of Queen’s University will take you out for lunch. Tim Hortons will give you a large coffee every work day for a year. All these, and more, are being put up for auction by Family and Children’s Services of Frontenac, Lennox and Addington in their new Futures Fund Auction starting August 1st.

The online charity auction is raising money for the 123 year old Children’s Aid Society’s Futures Fund, which gives bursaries to send kids in foster care to college and university. In June, the agency awarded $50,000 in bursaries to 12 youth. The auction will be one of the most unique of its kind, featuring a variety of one-of-a-kind experiences and great value items.

“We’re auctioning off some things you won’t be able to find anywhere else, like tea with the Mayor of Kingston and a consult on your next book choice with the Chief Librarian of Kingston. Plus, there’s barbeques, trips, services and more,” said Steve Woodman, Executive Director.

Other auction items include:
• A homemade butterscotch meringue pie baked by Kingston and the Islands MP Mark Gerretsen and his wife Vanessa
• A tour of the Parliament buildings in Ottawa and lunch for two at the Parliamentary Restaurant with Mike Bossio, MP for Hastings-Lennox & Addington
• A helicopter tour of the 1000 islands
• Pizza for a year
• Romantic getaways
• Four tickets to one of any Frontenacs home games

“We have some great auction items, but we also have a great need. Education is so important to the kids we serve. We’re asking people to give generously,” said Woodman.

The auction begins August 1st and closes September 8. It can be found online at www.FuturesAuction.ca.
